Myrtle Edna Tosse passed away Sunday, November 6, 2011 at St. Gerard’s Nursing Home in Hankinson, ND. Funeral services will be Friday, November 11, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at Bergen Lutheran Church in Lidgerwood, ND with Pastor Bob Caranicas and burial will be in Bergen Lutheran Cemetery, rural Lidgerwood, ND. Visitation will be Thursday from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Frank Family Funeral Home and Friday morning one hour prior to the service at the church. Pallbearers are her grandsons: Darin Tosse, Jason Tosse, Shane Tosse, Shawn Tosse, Dean Grove, Brandon Staples & Harlan Staples. Honorary pallbearers are all her great grandchildren.
Myrtle Edna Hookom Tosse was born March 8, 1922at their home in Willmar, MN, the daughter of Arthur & Isabel (Thompson) Hookom. She was baptized March 9, 1922 at their home. She grew up in the Green Lake Area of Minnesota & attended Dist 98 grade school and graduated from 8th grade in1937. She then attended High School in New London, MN, graduating on May 28, 1941. Myrtle worked after school and summers for Nyberg's, Frank's, and Otto Matson's, cleaning cottages, washing and ironing clothes, cooking meals, baking and butchering chickens. She also helped her parents with house hold chores, gardening, herding sheep, and she enjoyed helping to care for her youngest brother and sister.
Myrtle was confirmed and married at the Norwegian Lutheran Free Church in New London, MN by Rev V.S.Dahle. She was united in marriage to Einar Tosse Oct 12, 1941. After their marriage they lived on a farm and farmed by Lidgerwood, ND.
They were active members of the Bergen Lutheran Church and were caretakers of the Bergen Cemetery for several years.
After Einar's death in 1991, Mrytle moved to an apt in Lidgerwood and then to Dakota Estates and then to St Gerard's Community Nursing Home, there she lived till her death.
Myrtle worked beside her husband on the farm, with cattle chores and some field work, did gardening and canning, was a good house keeper, cook and baker, she made the best home made bread. She also did sewing, made quilts and crafts, and she like doing her word-fine puzzles and she enjoyed her family.
She is survived by her children: Manford Tosse, Britton, S.D., daughter Patricia (Galen) Grove, Granite Falls MN & Myrna (Vern) Levens, Golden Valley , MN; brother: Kenneth (Allene) Hookom, Chanhassen, MN; Sister: Claire Cobb, Rockaway Beach, OR; Sisters-in-Law: Lavonne Hookom, Willmar MN, and Estella Tosse, Hankinson, ND
14 grandchildren, and 27 great children, several nieces and nephews
She was preceded in death by her parents: Arthur & Isabel Hookom, her husband: Einar; sister: Evelyn and brother: Robert Hookom.
